Private Lessons

Private Pottery Lessons

Advanced Methods and Techniques

Looking to make pots that come alive with clarity and purpose? Join me for private one-on-one lessons that will focus on developing an intimate and intuitive connection with the material and an open, generous approach to technique.

Classes are offered as either a one time session or as a multi-class bundle and will be tailored to your specific needs and interests. Each class will include hands-on instruction, feedback, and guidance. Classes include all materials and are offered onsite at my studio in Florence, MA. Classes are for intermediate to advanced students and experience on the pottery wheel is required.

Facilities

My studio is equipped with four wheels (Shimpo Whisper, Brent CXC, Woodley Treadle Wheel, and a kickwheel), a slab roller, large work table, and all the necessary tools. I fire my work in reduction to Cone 10 in a Bailey kiln, located on-site.

Schedule

Classes can be booked to fit into your schedule. Some evening and weekend slots are available. Contact me if you have any questions!

“Steve's program is ideal because by committing to working with you one on one, he tailors each class to your abilities and interests. The studio is very inviting and well equipped. Class time could be a blend of: critical review of pots - what went well, advice on what can be improved; building new skills along the path to your selected projects; conversation about why we make pots, what makes pots delightful and functional; improving your core technique and studio practices to throw better and stay healthy. The instruction is encouraging, but challenging enough to keep you moving forward.

I have seen more progress in my work after a few weeks of Steve's lessons than I had in a year of working on my own. I took away many studio layout and workflow ideas from Steve's space and incorporated them into my own home studio, making me more effective there as well. If you've built a foundation in pottery but want to go much further, you should definitely consider private lessons with Steve - you'll be developing in every dimension of your practice.”
